Underground Railroad: Harriet Tubman: (jan 1, 1810 – jan 1, 1850)
Description:
The Underground Railroad was a system that was used for slaves to escape to the North or to Canada. White abolitionists would help these slaves escape from the South. Harriet Tubman took 19 trips from the North to the South to help 300 slaves escape. Freed blacks and white abolitionists would help slaves from the Fugitive Slave Act. Harriet Tubman, Frederick Douglas, and Sojourner Truth worked for the emancipation of slaves.
Map of the Underground Railroad: The underground railroad map shows the heavy movement of slaves from the South to the North, which reflects the magnitude and difficult journeys faced by African Americans.
