SALT I (nov 1, 1969 – may 1, 1972)
Description:
November 1969 to May 1972
This was the first of a set of “Strategic Arms Limitation Talks” in which the US and USSR tried to relax the nuclear arms race that had been burning during the cold war. They acknowledged the necessity to control their powerful weapons in the interest of the safety of the world, and used SALT talks as a way to communicate. It was incredibly significant as for the first time it allowed for the US and soviet Union to conduct peaceful talks and prevent nuclear warefare.
