Korean War (jun 25, 1950 – jul 27, 1953)
Description:
Soviets ruled in the North while the US and allies accompanied the South. North Korea began to reunite the country under its rule by invading South Korea, resulting in the UN aiding South Korea militarily, having the US supply the most troops and overall general, General Douglas MacArthur. The Soviets gave money and weapons to aid North Korea.
After three years, 4 million military and civilian deaths, the war ended stalemate, and Korea was left divided with a demilitarized zone in between.
The Korean War marks the first proxy war the two Superpowers were involved in. The Korean War can be viewed like a game of chess, where Korea is the gameboard, and the game pieces are a mixture of Korean civilians and soldiers from both sides.
