Glasnost (may 1, 1985 – dec 26, 1991)
Description:
Glasnost is "openness" in Russian and was a Soviet policy created by Mikhail Gorbachev, which would begin the democratization of the Soviet Union. Glasnost would reduce the power of the communist party as well as allowing elections to be conducted. Along with these changes was the criticism about the government being allowed (overall having the media and the people be able to speak of their minds more freely than before).
Glasnost was significant to the war because it would start the democratization of the Soviet Union, which would ultimately collapse the Soviet Union. As a result of Glasnost, satellite states, in terms of elections, would be able to conduct elections and result in the downfall of communism throughout these satellite states.
