The North: Agricultural Northwest (jan 1, 1824 – jan 1, 1848)

Description:

The old Northwest was made up by six states west of the Alleghenies that comprised the Union. The states here were made up from the land ceded to the national government in the 1780s and eventually turned into states by the Northwest Ordinance. In its early days The Northwest was unsettled frontier and was only settled along the Mississippi river in order to transport grain to the southern markets. By the mid-centaury, the states started to change thanks to the formation of transportation via canals and roads and by military campaigns driving Native Americans further west.
