Ming Dynasty (jan 2, 1368 – jan 1, 1644)

Description:

The Dynasty succeeding the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, characterized by events such as the building of the Great Wall and the movement of the capital from Nanjing to Beijing to better supervise the displaced Mongols. Established after a series of revolts toppled the Yuan Dynasty, the Ming ("Brilliant") Dynasty lasted from 1368 to 1644, when it was overtaken by the Qing Dynasty. Because the previous dynasty had focused on suppressing Chinese culture, officials of the Ming Dynasty were adamant about rebuilding traditional Chinese society. The Dynasty eventually fell due to issues such as piracy and the lack of coastal defenses, corruption of the government and bureaucracy, Manchu invasions, and famines.
