XYZ Affair (jan 1, 1797 – jan 1, 1798)
Description:
The Jay Treaty was not full proof and the French continued to seize American merchant ships. To resolve this Adams sent delegations to paris to negotiate with the French. Some French ministers XYZ made demands bribing Americans but the delegates refused and the Americans were not happy. This leading them to a direction that they did not want to go.Added to timeline:
