Civil Service Examinations (jan 1, 1451 – jan 1, 1811)
Description:
Civil Service Examinations are a series of brutal exams given at the district, provincial, and metropolitan levels that determined entry into the Chinese civil service during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Strict quotas limited the amount of successful candidates in each examination. Only 300 students could pass the examinations and students would take the examinations many times before earning a degree.
