Civil War (mar 1, 1920 – jan 1, 1922)

Description:

-Took place between November 7th, 1917, and October 25th, 1922
- Defence of the new Bolshevik government by the Red Army (known as the Reds), and the coalition of anti-Bolshevik Russian and interventionist forces (known as the Whites)
- After a revolt from the Czechoslovak Legion, made up of Czech and Slovak deserters from the Austro-Hungarian army, the Bolshevik government cracked down on many non-Bolshevik socialists and other parties
- In September 1918, the government gave increased powers to the Cheka, the political police, who then when on a spree of arresting, jailing, and killing people, as well as shooting political hostages
