War communism (jun 1, 1918 – mar 21, 1921)
Description:
- The economic policy applied by the Bolshevik government during the period of the Russian Civil War
- Put into place from June 1st, 1918 to March 21st, 1921
- Key features were the expropriation (or the seizure by the state) of personal property, the nationalization of industry, and the forced requisition of surplus grain and other food products for state distribution
- Ended up being a near-catastrophic failure due to sudden inflation of the economy and no incentive for farmers to grow excess grain
This resulted in strikes across the country known as the Kronshtadt Rebellion
