French Involvement (jan 1, 1887 – may 7, 1954)
Description:
French imperialized Indonesia late in the 1800s due to their desire for raw materials. In 1940, Germany conquered France, leaving the French no way to defend their imperialized nation. In response, Japan invaded Indonesia and occupied Vietnam. However, at the end of World War 2 and with the defeat of Japan, France reasserted its authority over Vietnam. France would hold its authority until May 1954 when Viet Minh forces defeated French troops.Added to timeline:
