Geneva Accords (apr 22, 1954 – jun 22, 1954)

Description:

The goal of the accords was to settle issues resulting from the korean war and the french indochina wars. France would withdraw troops from Vietnam.
Vietnam would reunite, and elections would decide the next leader.

Significance: The US was convinced that the elections would result in a victory for the communist leader of north vietnam, so they established a new anti-communist government in southern vietnam, in preparation for another conflict.
