Napoleonic Wars (jan 1, 1803 – jan 1, 1815)

Description:

Taking advantage of the weakened state of France from the power vacuum of the French Revolution, Napoleon Bonaparte, a successful army general, crowned himself emperor and subsequently overran nearby countries and expanded French territories, along with creating many enemies with other European countries.

In his subservient territories, he did introduce reforms making the government more efficient, the legal system more uniform, and taxation less burdensome. War, however, is quite expensive, and many territories were leached for their resources to contribute to his wars. This gradually lost his public support, and further worked to antagonize European status quo and stability.

The wars ended with his disastrously campaign to take Moscow, leading to his defeat, abdication, and banishment.
