Description:

Description: The Cuban Missile Crisis was a confrontation over the Soviet Union’s installation of nuclear missiles in Cuba, which resulted in Kennedy enacting a naval blockade to stop missiles from being shipped there. People feared that a disastrous nuclear war would break out from this incident, however, crisis was averted when Krushchev decided to remove all missiles from Cuba and the US agreed to withdraw missiles from Turkey.
Significance: The event was the climax of the two superpowers’ tensions, almosting sparking a nuclear conflict. Even so, it led to the development of a “hot line” as a means of better communication between the two countries.
