Description:

In November 1904 the Russian Government decided to try to make the war against Japan seem more popular. However, the hope for the reform was not ment and some socialist and workers’ decided to go a different way in handling this. On January 22, 1905, Georgy Apollonovich Gapon led a group of workers to the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg, where the czar was. Imperial forces opened fire into the crowd of demonstrators. This lead to the killing and wounding of hundreds. Riots and strikes started throughout the country in response to the massacre. Czar Nicholas II claimed that he will create a series of representative assembles, a Dumas, to work toward reformation.
