Description: The ending of the French Colonial rule within Indochina was symbolized by the victory of the Viet Minh at Dien Bien Phu, an 8 week long siege.
Significance: This event had a significant impact on the French because it caused a decrease in French morale. The United States, on the other hand, did not want the country to fall to communism. They believed in the domino theory, which stated that if one country fell to communism, the nearby ones would also fall.
