Josepha Barbara Auernhammer (jan 1, 1758 – jan 1, 1820)
Description:
An austrian female pianist and composer who composed piano music -- particularly variations. She studied with famous musicians, including Georg Friedrich Richter, Leopold Kozeluch and W.A. Mozart. From 1781, Auernhammer and Mozart frequently spent time together and performed together. In fact, Mozart dedicated some of his sonatas to her; today, they are known as the “Auernhammer Sonatas.” She regularly appeared and performed in concerts until March 21, 1813, and she passed away on January 30, 1820, in Vienna.
