Mozart was marketed by his father as a child prodigy, resulting in a lot of traveling as a kid. He was incredibly good at improvisation even at this point in his life. Though he had early success, he struggled to gain traction in his adult years, and this along with his gambling habits helped to ensure he be poor for his entire adulthood.

In every kind of composition he achieved an extraordinary synthesis of form and content, of the galant and learned styles, of polish and charm with emotional depth. He approached his mature symphonies very seriously, as he did with easier listening genres (such as serenades).

Themes and Characteristics
Where Haydn built themes by carrying small motives or forming a series of contrasting gestures, Mozart's themes tend to be songlike, perhaps reflecting Italian influence. A particular specialty of Mozart's was the use of topics.
