Iron Age Britain – 1000BCE
- Iron age Britain – society of farmers and craftsmen. During this time, as many people lived in Britain as when Queen Victoria 1st was on the throne. Very populated. As much land was cultivated then as in 1914.
o Considering these facts, we know that this society was very energetic. Those people were great craftsmen. Think of Iron Age Britons as great craftsmen. That’s why the Romans invaded.
- Spectacular metal work (armlets, shields, e.g. the Battersea Shield)
o Golden artifacts, beautiful shields, massively decorated. With these tribal manufacture came trade, warriors, artists. They shipped these artifacts all over Europe. Sadly enough, they also traded with rome, which was at the beginning of an expanding Roman Empire.
