The Vietnam War was one of the longest wars in American history. The conflict became largely unpopular in the US, and was a source of protest and social unrest. One impact of the war on America was the anti-war movement, in which college students held protests against the war, and it also encouraged the counter-culture hippie movement of the 1960s. Vietnam is similar to the war in the Middle East going on now, because it is not very popular, but it keeps dragging on.
