Du Bois wrote the autobiography of anti-slavery activists John Brown, John Brown is a man who started a slave revolt but failed, and at the same year Oswald Garrison Villard published his autobiography of John Brown, instead of making a new rival, Du Bois worked with Oswald to form the NAACP, which stands The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
