Hiroshima (aug 6, 1945 – aug 9, 1945)
Description:
When Japan ignored the ultimatum of surrender set forth following the Potsdam Conference, President Truman order the dropping of the Atom Bomb (fission bomb) on Hiroshima, and when the Japanese did not swiftly surrender or respond to the devastating bombing, (3 days later), Nagasaki was bombed using a plutonium (imploding) bomb. These events remain to be some of the most devastating in history. Significant figures include Charles Albury, pilot of the bomber which bombed Nagasaki, and Robert Lewis, co-pilot of the Enola Gay which dropped the Hiroshima bomb.
