Re-opening of the Cotton Library (jan 1, 1730 – oct 23, 1731)
Description:
After John, 3rd Baron Ashburnham sold his house to the Crown in 1730, it was opened as The Cotton Library of Historic, Legal, and Constitutional Manuscripts. Most of its books had been collected by Sir Robert Cotton and his family about two centuries earlier, of which Beowulf was one.
