Japanese Bomb Pearl Harbor (dec 7, 1941 – dec 7, 1941)
Description:
In response to the United States cutting of trade with Japan over the position in the war, and the military objective of Japan at the time, Japan bombs the Pearl Harbor base in Oahu, Hawaii, severely damaging 3/4 of the ships, killing many civilians and military personnel, but oil facilities, aircraft carriers, and harbor facilities were spared from the attack. Significant figures involved in this event are Thomas Macy, one of the firefighters who perished during the event and is one of only 3 civilians to be awarded the Purple Heart, and Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, chief strategist of the Pearl Harbor attack.
