Montgomery Bus Boycott (dec 5, 1955 – dec 20, 1956)
Description:
Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat for a white person on a bus, leading to her arrest
Black Churches and leaders called for a boycott of city buses
Since 2/3s of the bus riders were black, this hurt the city’s income
Resulted in shots being fired at city buses & bombs being thrown into homes of the boycott’s leaders
Buses were desegregated 1 year later after a Supreme Court ruling
