Potsdam Conference (jul 17, 1945 – aug 2, 1945)
Description:
The Potsdam Conference in 1945 was the last time the leaders of the “Big Three''- at the time they were American President Harry S. Truman, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (mid conference it switched to Clement Attlee) and Soviet Premier Joseph Stalin, met during WWII. They concurred that concur that 1) Japan unconditionally surrenders (but secretly let Japan keep their emeror) 2) convict Nazi leaders for war-crimes and made agreements about German economy 3) Council of Foreign Ministers was established with big three nations + France and China. The POtsdam Conference heightened the tension between the Soviet Union and the US because the Soviets wanted more war reparations from Germany against American belief. The tension about the communist countries of Eastern Europe by the Soviets was also a topic for discussion. This shows how the soviets were becoming enemies instead of allies at this point and the US was still involved in foreign affairs.
