Surrender at the Appomattox Court House (apr 9, 1865 – apr 9, 1865)
Description:
The surrender of Robert E. Lee and the Confederate forces marked the end of the Civil War, as well as ending in Union victory; causing slavery to be abolished in the united states "in a sense" , and marked america a now whole free independent state. This final battle ended with the two generals who were most rewarded for their intended sides victories, General Robert E. Lee and his Confederate army of 26,000 and Ulysses S. grant and his Union of 63,285. Lee's forces were pushed back towards the appomattox river where they were receiving heavy fire. Both Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. grant exchange flags to agree and meet at the Appomattox Court House where there Lee surrenders and Union gain victory of the war.
