Battle of gettysburg (jul 1, 1863 – jul 3, 1863)
Description:
The battle of gettysburg marked a turning point in the civil war, many battles have been non stop confederate wins and the Union was beginning to be taken over by the south. This victory was the decision of the confederates state of america becoming its own nation, between a peaceful free state for all to rejoice. The Union was holding the defensive on this side with General George G. Meade and his 93,921 Union men. While the Confederates holding mostly defensive most of the war had began to seige the point on Gettysburg with Robert E. Lee and his 71,699 Confederate men. The battle ended in Union victory and stopped the south from invading the north; and bringing the civil war to a swift confederate victory. The total estimated casualties was 51,112 from both sides combined.
