Description:
The First Zionist Congress began the political movement that would lead to the creation of a Jewish state. It was an unlikely movement, based on faith as much as anything else"

1st Congress convened: Aug29-31, 1897
A few days after the congress had ended, Theodor Herzel wrote a prophecy, which would come true exactly 50 years from the 1st Congress (the Jubliee of the proclamation):
"At Basel, I founded the Jewish State. If I said this out loud today, I would be answered by universal laughter. Perhaps in five years, certainly fifty years, everyone will know it"
