Description:
Starting on August 3, 1864 1,500 Union men were under the control of Maj. Gen. Gordon Granger and were told to seige west of the ship channel. On August 5 the real attack started with the Union having 18 ships in general and forced both forts to surrender on the 8th. On the last day the 23 the confederates shutdown the port and only surrendered three days after the loss of the Appomattox Court House.
