Third Punic War (jan 1, 149 BC – jan 1, 133 BC)

Description:

"Rome regarded the treaty [of the Second Punic War] as making Carthage permanently subordinate to Rome, unable to wage war against its neighbors without Roman approval. But Carthage did just that in 151 B.C.E., after Numidia, a kingdom in North Africa that bordered Carthage and was a client state of Rome, launched a border raid on Carthaginian territory. In response, Rome declared war on Carthage in 149 B.C.E., which became the Third Punic War. After a three-year siege, led by Scipio Aemilianus, the grandson by adoption of Scipio Africanus, the Roman army took the city in 146 B.C.E. and destroyed it. The Romans sold the remaining residents into slavery and annexed Carthage’s territory, which became an important source of grain to feed the city of Rome."
