Zheng He commandeers his fifth voyage. (jan 1, 1417 – jan 1, 1419)
Description:
The fifth voyage was mainly a return trip for seventeen heads of state from South Asia. They had made their way to China after Zheng He’s visits to their kingdoms or homelands so that they could present their tribute at the Ming Court. On this expedition Zheng He travelled even further. First he got to Aden, a port city in Yemen at the mouth of the Red Sea, and then on to the east coasts of Africa, while stopping at the city states of Mogadishu and Barawa (present-day Somalia). The fleet also got to Malindi (today’s Kenya). Many ambassadors from the countries Zheng He visited came back to China with him. *Routes are on photos below.*
