The start of Hip Hop (jan 1, 1970 – jan 1, 1975)

Description:

A lot of the white middle class in New York moved out of the cities and into new suburban houses. As a result Crime, gang violence and poverty was rising. Due to poverty a lot of these minorities began creating their own cultures and entertainment. Dj-ing quickly became popular as a sort of entertainment among the African americans

Rapping or MC-ing ( Microphone controller ) originated from dj-ing. The MC’s job was to introduce the Dj and encourage people to dance and just have a good time. The MC’s were old school hype men. Some MC’s would also hype the audience while the music was playing.
