Description:

Cause:

1. aggression of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, who tried to take over Kuwait in August 1990
2. Iraq also considered Kuwait as the part of their country

Effect:

1. persuaded Saudi Arabia to accept a huge American troop buildup (Operation Desert Shield)
2. Operation Desert Storm
3. took Bush’s approval ratings to above 90%
4. The price of oil fell
5. Saddam Hussein continued to rule in Iraq and tightened his grip on Iraq
