Description:
Cause:1. address the problems of Rural America
2. attacked parties that were with Wall Street bankers and big business
Effect:
1. Direct election of U.S. senators (in the original U.S. Constitution, senators were selected by state legislatures)
2. Lower tariff rates
3. A graduated income tax (people with higher incomes would pay higher rates of tax)
4. A new banking system regulated by the federal government
5. reform ideas would lead to Populist Party
