Plessy v. Ferguson (apr 13, 1896 – may 18, 1896)

Description:

Cause:

1. Plessy, a man who was only 1/8 black, refused to give his seat up in the white section of a train.

Effect:

1. The Supreme Court ruled that all facilities could be 'Separate but Equal'. (Racial segregation did not violate 14th amendment)

2. Businesses and facilities often did not have equal things for both African Americans and Whites where blacks were usually given the worse facilities and people turned a blind eye

3. Caused discrimination and segregation to worsen
