Cause:1. settle results of 1876 presidential election
Effect:
1. ended Reconstruction era.
2. Southern Democrat's promises to protect civil and political rights of blacks were not kept.
3. The end of federal interference in southern affairs led to widespread disenfranchisement of blacks voters.
