Emancipation Proclamation (jan 1, 1863 – jan 1, 1863)

Description:

Cause:
1. Abraham Lincoln wanted to free the slaves of the southern states.
2. He thought that a person being owned by another person was awful.
3. He also wanted the former slaves to join the Union and fight against the Confederates during the civil war.

Effect:
1. Freedom of slaves in ten Confederates states still in rebellion
2. Freed slaves enlisted in Union Army, increasing Union's available manpower.
