Marie Curie (France) (jan 1, 1867 – jan 1, 1934)
Description:
She studied the radioactivity of elements, specifically of uranium, as well as polonium and radium, which she discovered herself. She used the radioactivity of radium to treat tumors.
She went off of the research of Henri Becquerel, who had discovered radioactivity, and took it one step further by picking apart a mineral called pitchblende, discovering two new elements.
