The Second Opium War (jan 1, 1856 – jan 1, 1860)
Description:
The British found a way to make tensions arise and take advantage of China's weakened state during the Taiping Rebellion. With the help of the French they forcibly gained trading rights after reaching Tianjin. In 1858, The treaty of Tianjin stopped the conflict, legalized opium trade, and gave the British the Kowloon Peninsula.
