Nian Rebellion (jan 1, 1851 – jan 1, 1868)

Description:

in 1855, Zhang Lexing formed a rebellion with peasants, deserters, and smugglers. Their numbers grew exponentially despite the loss of Lexing and their citadel Zhihe in 1863. Their hit-and-run strategies were effective until the Chinese government took authority after the Taiping Rebellion.
