Taiping Rebellion (jan 1, 1850 – jan 1, 1864)

Description:

The Taiping Rebellion was an uprising formed around a new religion by Hong Xiuqian, who believed to be the son of god. Hong attracted many peasants and was even successful in capturing Nanjing. However, the rebellion ended with Hong's suicide and the government reclaiming Nanjing with aid from the west.
