William the Conqueror & the Feudal system (jan 1, 1027 – jan 1, 1087)

Description:

He took over the country after the Norman conquest. He brought nobles (land owners) and divided the land among them, which is how he imposed the feudal system (land in exchange for service). Influence on the English language – Latin, Old English (Celtic – Germanic), French spoken by nobility (sheep – mutton..). He united the country, made rules that everyone follows, he was good at leading the country, brought stability, built castles...

The Feudal system
A feudal society has three distinct social classes: a king, a noble class (which could include nobles, priests, and princes) and a peasant class. Historically, the king owned all the available land, and he portioned out that land to his nobles for their use. The nobles, in turn, rented out their land to peasants. Structure of medieval society

Influence Latin
The Norman invasion of England in 1066 had a major impact not only on the country, but also on the English language. William the Conqueror and his merry band of Normans brought with them Norman French, which became the language of the court, government and the upper class for the next three centuries.
