The Great Migration (jan 1, 1916 – jan 1, 1920)
Description:
This movement was important because during the Great Migration, hundreds of thousands of African Americans had uprooted The Harlem themselves from their homes in the South and moved north to the big cities in search of jobs. By the end of the decade, 5. 2 million of the nation’s 12 million African Americans over 40 percent lived in cities. This buzz of exitement, opportunity, and hope brought to the cities also helped influence a brighter future for women and their roles, the new ideal emerged for women: the flapper.
