The "Cultural Civil War" (jan 1, 1920 – jan 1, 1929)
Description:
The “Cultural Civil War” was between the urban and the rural. As the Great Migration of African Americans emerged the increasing visibility of black culture --jazz and blues music and the Harlem Renaissance--irritated some white Americans. As a result, the Ku Klux Klan resurfaced causing tension in north and south. Also, new Birth of Mass Culture affected the economy in the rural areas to go down and the urban economy to go up, along with the rising debate of evolution vs. religion.
