The Modern era is the most recent and thus the most well documented. It was during this era that women's issues and struggles occassionally started to come to the forefront of society, politics, science and everyday life. Women also began entering public schools, universities, and the workforce.
First Industrial Revolution (1750 AD to 1840 AD) beginning of the modern era that saw several technological innovations, including the invention of the cotton gin, the increase of city factories and mills.
Revolutionary Period (1764 AD to 1848 AD) American Revolution, French Revolution, Spanish-American Wars for Independence, Italian Revolutions, Greek War of Independence, and the Spring of Nations.
Age of Imperialism (1800 AD to 1914 AD) colonization of other nations by France, Britain, Spain, the Netherlands, and the United States.
Victorian Era (1837 AD to 1901 AD) the reign of Queen Victoria I, increased urbanization, the American Civil War and the end of African slavery.
Second Industrial Revolution (1869 AD to 1914 AD) also known as the Technological Revolution. The light bulb, the telephone, the airplane, and the Model T automobile were invented. Leading to increased urbanization.
World War I (1914 AD to 1918 AD) worldwide conflict centered in Europe.
Great Depression (1929 AD to 1939 AD) extended period of worldwide economic hardship that started with the stock market crash in 1929.
World War II (1939 AD to 1945 AD) wartime period that began with Germany’s invasion of Poland and ends with the surrender of Japan, the last standing Axis power.
Contemporary Period (1945 AD to current) also known as the Information Age. Many colonized countries fought and won their independence from their colonizers such as India, Indonesia, South Korea, Cambodia, Jordan and many more. Also the period in which technological advances define social, economic and political life.
