Meriwether Lewis, Thomas Jefferson’s private secretary, and Lieutenant William Clark on an expedition west. They traveled from the Mississippi River (near IL), to the Pacific Ocean and then back to St. Louis. As they traveled, they marked plants, animals and the land.
