The Norman Invasion of England (jan 1, 1066 – jan 1, 1075)

Description:

1.The Normans invaded England because the Duke of Normandy William the Conqueror believed he had claim to the throne of England after their previous king died. William was a distant cousin of the late king and when they went on a trip to France, he had been promised the throne upon his passing.
2. After the conquest, the Normans rebuilt the current English churches and Cathedrals. England had 15 churches in the 1000s, and by the time of William’s death, they had rebuilt 9 of them. They had also built around 500 castles across England and Wales before Williams death.
3. Over 100,000 people died as a result of the invasion. Although neither army likely exceeded 10,000 men, the Normans laid waste on the country’s agricultural land, making human life very difficult and leading to 100,000 deaths.
