2. This was a financial panic in the United States caused by the declining international economy and over-expansion of the domestic economy.3. The Panic of 1857 mostly affected the Northern economy which just gave the South even more reason to believe that their slave driven agricultural economy to be superior to the North. This led to the South to start feeling independent towards the rest of the nation.
