2. This was a war between the United States and Mexico and was won by the Americans and gained more than 500,000 square miles of Mexican territory.3. The results of the war contributed a lot to the beginnings of a civil war. The new territories were fought for between the slave states who wanted to expand slavery and the free states who wanted to keep slavery from expanding in order to give more power to the South.
